When my son, Mark, was in the third grade, he saved all his pocket money for over three months to buy holiday presents. The third Saturday in December Mark said to me, “Mum, I have saved twenty dollars, and I have made the list.”
I drove him to a nearby supermarket. Mark picked up a hand basket and went in while I waited and watched in the car. It took Mark over 45 minutes to choose his presents. Finally he came to the checkout counter (交款处) and reached into his pocket for his money. It was not there! There was a hole in his pocket, but no money. Mark stood there holding his basket, tears (眼泪) falling down his face.
Then a surprising thing happened. A woman came up to Mark and took him in her arms. “You would help me a lot if you let me pay for you,” said the woman. “It would be the most wonderful gift you could give me. I only ask that one day you will pass it on. When you grow up, I would like you to find someone you can help. When you help others, I know you will feel as good about it as I do now.”
Mark took the money, dried his tears and paid for all his presents.
That year we all enjoyed our gifts almost as much as Mark enjoyed giving them to us.
I would like to say “thank you” to that very kind woman, and tell her that four years later, Mark went house to house collecting quilts and clothes for the homeless people in the fire. And I want to promise her that Mark will never forget to keep passing it on.

Do you have a sleep problem If you do, there is a simple way to help you improve your sleep. You may need to see more sunlight, especially in the morning, according to a study.
A team of researchers (研究人员) from New York, US did the study, reported Yahoo News.
The team did a study on 109 office workers across the US. They found that some of the workers saw lots of light during the morning hours, between 8 am and lunchtime. The researchers found that these workers had a better sleep than other workers. They also fell asleep more quickly at night.
Why is sunlight so important to our sleep Researchers say it helps us set our “body clock”. When there is less and less sunlight at the end of the day, our body starts to make melatonin (褪黑素). It makes us feel sleepy so that we know it’s time to go to bed. Our body makes the most melatonin at night. But during the day, sunlight tells our body to make less melatonin so that we can stay awake (清醒的) and do our work.
Researchers suggest (建议) that we should see 15 minutes of sunlight in the morning. It can help balance (平衡) the melatonin in our bodies.
41.According to the story, what can people do to have a better sleep
A.Go to bed earlier. B.Eat healthier foods.

B.See 15 minutes of sunlight at lunchtime.
C.See 15 minutes of sunlight in the afternoon.

Dumb phones are basic phones with very limited(有限的) functionality(功能) compared to smart phones. You can typically only make and receive calls and text messages. And, if you are lucky you can listen to radio and take very basic photos, but certainly not connect to the internet or apps.
Ms. West’s decision to give up her former smartphone two years ago was a spur(心血来潮) of the moment thing. While looking for a replacement phone in a second-hand shop she was attracted by the low price of a “brick phone”.
It cost her just 8. And because it has no smartphone functionality she doesn’t have an expensive monthly data bill(账单) to worry about.
“I didn’t notice until I bought a brick phone how much a smartphone was taking over my life, ” she says. “I had a lot of social media apps on it, and I didn’t get as much work done as I was always on my phone.”
Dumb phones are continuing to enjoy a revival(复兴). Google searches for them jumped by 89% between 2018 and 2021. One report said that global sales of dumb phones were surprisingly one billion units last year, up from 400 million in 2019. This compares to worldwide sales of 1.4 billion smart phones last year, following a 12.5% fall in 2020.
It appears nostalgia has a part to play in the dumb phone revival. Many of us had a dumb phone as our first mobile phone, so it’s natural that we feel a sense of nostalgia towards these classic phones.
Nowadays a smart phone’s ability to connect calls and send short messages is almost a side feature. Your smart phone is your entertainment centre, your news producer, your guiding system, your diary, your dictionary, and your wallet.
Smartphones always want to grab your attention with notices, updates, and breaking news constantly disrupting(扰乱) your day. This can keep you on edge, and it can be troubled.
It makes sense that some of us are now looking for simpler technologies and think that dumb phones might offer a return to simpler times.

48.What can we know from the fifth paragraph

D.Sales of Dumb phones are better than before.

It’s hard to go anywhere these days without seeing people staring at their smart-phones, but one place that still asks you to turn them off is the cinema. But even this may be about to change. In an interview with Variety, Adam Aron, CEO of one of the biggest cinema chains in the world, AMC, said the company is considering allowing phones to be used in its US theaters.
Aron said the plan was to draw more millennials(千禧一代)into cinemas as a way of increasing the industry’s number of audience(观众). “When you tell 22-year-olds to turn off the phone so as not to ruin the movie, they hear ‘please cut off your left arm above the elbow’. You can’t tell 22-year-olds to turn off their cellphones. That’s not how they live their lives,” he said.
“We need to reshape our product in some concrete ways so that millennials go to movie theaters with the same degree of intensity(强烈)as baby boomers(尤指第二次世界大战后生育高峰期出生的人)went to movie theaters throughout their lives.”
Aron admits that although the idea may attract some people, not everyone is going to appreciate having the glare of multiple smart-phone screens disturbing their cinema experience. “We’re going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audience, because today’s moviegoers don’t want anybody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on. But there are ads up there saying turn off your phone.”
Aron did offer one possible solution that could potentially(潜在地)benefit everyone. He suggested designating(指定)certain auditoriums(观众席)as ‘texting friendly’, which would hopefully mean that those who can’t bear to go without checking their phone every few minutes can watch a movie in one screening room while everyone else can use another.
Whether we do ever see ‘texting screens’ appearing in any of AMC’s cinemas remains to be seen. So far, the idea hasn’t been very well received, with most people saying, rightly, that keeping a phone turned off during a movie isn’t a difficult task.
51.From paragraph 1, we can know ________.
A.People seldom use their phones these days
B.In general, people can use their phones freely in cinema
C.Adam Aron wants to make it possible for people to use phones in cinema
D.Adam Aron agrees that people should stop using phones in cinema

53.Aron came up with the plan in order to ________.
A.draw more millennials into cinemas B.ask the audience to use their phones less
C.stop the audience using their phones D.disturb today’s audience
54.Aron’s ideas don’t include ________.

How long does a year last ___66___ Your parents might say that a whole year can pass “in the blink (眨眼) of an eye”. Why does time seem to pass faster as we get older
___67___ This physical change causes the rate at which we take in and process new information to decline (下降、衰退). Babies, for example, move their eyes much more often than adults because they’re processing images at a faster rate. They take in a lot of information and do many things in a single day. ___68___ However, as people’s brains degrade (退化) over time, fewer images are processed in the same amount of time. Therefore, older people receive less information during a day than younger people. This causes things to seem as though they’re happening more quickly.
___69___ People may measure time by the number of memorable events that can be recalled within a certain period. Have you ever noticed that when you recall your firsts, they seem to be in slow motion That’s because when something is a “first”, there are many exciting things to remember. Recalling these memories makes you feel like they took forever.

Protect the Springs
Jinan is known for famous springs. It has seventy-two springs. Baotu Spring ranks the first among 72 springs in Jinan and is known as “the first spring in the world”. The water is sweet, fresh, cool and clear.
The “Spring City” attracts visitors from all over the world. But with it comes different levels of pollution. In the scenic area, you can see the rubbish thrown everywhere, and the water is also polluted to some extent. Sometimes the waste water is found to be discharged into the spring, and the clean spring water is instantly polluted and smells stink.
Thus, some measures have been taken to strengthen spring water protection. Spring water provides an ideal source of water for us. In order to create a beautiful environment, everyone should take action to protect it. And as a visitor, we should view, drink and protect springs civilizedly.
