(2023上·浙江台州·八年级统考期末)These days people can’t travel far away because of COVID-19, but they have another choice: micro-tourism, or mini-vacations.
Micro-tourism is a kind of short trips. During the trip, people drive two or three hours to a nearby place and spend two or three days. Instead of making a careful plan and preparing a lot of money, micro-tourism makes people more flexible(灵活的)and is less expensive.
According to China Daily, micro-tourism started catching on seven or eight years ago, and it’s getting more and more popular. More and more Chinese people choose to take short trips these days.
In the past, the 28-year-old man, Mark Hou from Beijing enjoyed taking long trips to other countries or leaving Beijing to see places of interest in other cities, but now he has to make a change. That doesn’t mean Hou has lost fun during his short trips. After a long and tiring week at work, Hou likes to invite three or four friends and drive to Beijing’s suburbs(郊区)on weekends. Sometimes they just bring a camping tent, a camera, some food and water, and travel around the mountains or parks. Hou said, “When we feel tired, we can put up a tent to rest and have a picnic. That can make us relaxed.”
Many cities also give more choices for visitors. For example, Shanghai has a lot of micro-tourism products(产品)for half-day and one-day tour. “With these programs, young visitors no longer want to go far away, but are ready to find new ways to experience their cities,” Feng Rao, head of Mafengwo Tourism Research Center, told People’s Daily.

(2023上·浙江宁波·八年级宁波市海曙外国语学校校考期末)Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been stuck indoors. Online classes and working from home mean a lot of sitting around on your butt.
We already know that if we don’t move much, we get fatter, we get heart problems and maybe we get diabetes (糖尿病). But new studies have shown that it could hurt our mental (心理的) health too.
A study of 1020 Brazilian adults during the pandemic found that about 30% of them sat around for more than 10 hours per day. It reported that people who sat for too long often showed more symptoms of depression (抑郁的症状).
Another study looked at children. It found that each extra hour of sitting time at ages 12, 14 and 16 led to higher depression scores by age 18. Eighteen-year-old people who sat most often had depression scores 28 % higher than those who were more active.
Scientists are not sure yet about the link between too much sitting and depression. But according to Mats Hallgren from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, “Sitting for too long can slow blood flow in the body, including blood flow to the brain.” It might also affect the growth of neurons (神经细胞) in the brain. And couch potatoes might do other unhealthy things while sitting, such as snacking on junk food. All these may lead to depression.
The good news It’s easy to overcome (克服). Aaron Kandola from University College London, UK, said “all types” of movement might help, even light activity.
“It is great to exercise and play sports,” said Kandola. “But anything you can do to avoid sitting for too long will help with mood, stress and thinking clearly.” The key message is just to move more, more often.

(2023上·浙江嘉兴·八年级统考期末)Dear Ann,
In the last letter, you said you were interested in the school club I started last year. You asked me what pushed me to do so.
Well, the answer came to me when searching for a topic for the school work. I found that many U. S. teens weren’t even eating one piece of fruit or vegetable daily! If I can help others put more vegetables and fruits into their daily meals, I would surely do that.
So, I started “Lettuce Eat” as well as a website with nutrition(营养)tips. Here I want to share some cool tips with you.
If you dislike eating vegetables, here’s a tip for you: Put vegetables into meals without having to taste them. It got me to eat vegetables that I don’t like, such as cauliflower or carrots. I mix(混合)vegetables with meat and use them in noodles or other dishes.
Sometimes you don’t even need to make a difficult dish. By just adding something on the side, you can greatly increase the nutrients you get out of the meal. For example, tomatoes have a lot of vitamin C. If you add tomatoes to rice and beans, you will get more iron.
I think my most useful lesson was knowing the importance of having “3 square meals” so that I wouldn’t be very interested in unhealthy snacks(点心). In the past, I often snacked a lot on chips and chocolates and got into a bad habit of eating too much between meals, then not being hungry enough for a healthy meal, and then being hungry again for snacking... and this would go on and on. Now I know that I need to have a complete meal, including vegetables and other healthy food, and I have now given up most of my unhealthy snacking.
There is so much to learn about nutrition. Although I only spent about a year on my club, it turned out to be a fun way to give useful information to teenagers. I hope you will join us as well!
Yours,
Vivian Jibrin
