As a Chinese who travels to Shanghai frequently, here is my suggested list of the top four things to do in Shanghai.
Admire the Bund
The Bund is the most famous and attractive sight there. The best time to admire the Bund is after dark when all the buildings are lit up, creating an extremely colorful and breathtaking scene. There are lots of sightseeing boats that let you view the beautiful Bund every night. Make sure to go on one of these boats. But you are not able to take good photos by boat.
Pay a visit to the Nanjing Road
Even if you are not a shop-lover, please spare an hour to visit Shanghai’s premier shopping street—Nanjing Road. There are upper-class department stores within 1920s-style buildings, along with world-famous brands and restaurants. This place is ideal to shop for authentic (真正的) Shanghainese snacks and souvenirs. If you don’t want to walk, a trackless sightseeing train only costs three yuan.
Take the Maglev Train
Take the Shanghai Maglev Train from Pudong International Airport to the Lujiazui financial district. The Maglev has a regular service speed of 430 km/h and is the fastest railway system in commercial operation in the world. This 30 km ride takes about eight minutes and 50 yuan one way, and 80 yuan for a round trip.
Taste the Hairy Crabs
Do a crab feast! Food hunting is important for most of the travelers. Shanghai’s cuisine is famous and hairy crabs are what you must eat there. However, hairy crabs are seasonal. If you go between September and November, it is the best time to not only enjoy hairy crabs, but a crab feast.
21. What can visitors do in Shanghai
A. Visit the Nanjing Road only on foot.
B. Admire the Bund better during the day.
C. Take good pictures of the Bund by boat.
D. Enjoy local snacks on the Nanjing Road.
22. How much does a couple have to pay if they take the maglev train for a round trip
A. 160. B. 130. C. 100. D. 80.
23. When is the best time to eat hairy crabs
A. In August. B. In December. C. In autumn. D. In winter.
B
One day, a little boy was playing and his father was doing his office work.
While playing, the little boy was getting curious about things and kept repeatedly coming to his father to ask questions. The father was getting disturbed and couldn’t do his work, which made him upset. So, he thought, “Why not give him some work, which can keep him concentrated for a few hours so that I will be able to finish my work ” He took out an old book and found a page with a world map printed on. He tore that page from the book and cut it into small pieces to make a small puzzle game for the boy.
When the boy came again, the father gave those pieces to him and said, “Here is a puzzle for you. Join these pieces and you will make a world map. When the map is made, come and show it to me. ” He started doing his work believing that he would not be disturbed for hours.
But within 5 minutes, the boy came back and said, “Dad, look, I made the world map.” While checking, the father found that the pieces were joined correctly. He asked, “How did you do this so quickly ” The boy smiled and said, “It was easy, Dad. The pieces of the page that you gave me had a world map on one side and a picture of a cartoon on the other. I just joined the pieces to make the cartoon and the world map also appeared.”
Often we see a difficult problem and try to solve it. But when we can’t, we think that it cannot be solved and get troubled over it. This is because we see it only from one side, our own point of view. We are not able to think that there can be another, from which it can be solved. Therefore, whenever there is a problem in life,we should look at it from every angle (角度). That way, a solution may be found to that problem.
24. Why did the father make a small puzzle game
A. To help his son know some basic knowledge.
B. To satisfy his son’s curiosity about the game.
C. To keep his son from bothering him frequently.
D. To inspire his son to learn more about the world.
25. How did the boy finish the puzzle
A. Through trial and error. B. Through a video online.
C. Through a world map. D. Through the cartoon.
26. How might the father feel when his son finished the puzzle so fast
A. Confused. B. Amazed. C. Indifferent. D. Tolerant.
27. What does this passage want to tell us
A. Experience is the mother of wisdom.
B. If you don’t aim high, you’ll never hit high.
C. A change of viewpoint, a way to success.
D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.

During the closing ceremony of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics held on Feb 20, a video about the work of volunteers was broadcast, and representatives of the volunteers were honored for their contributions to the Games.
According to Teng Shengping, director-general of the volunteer department of the Beijing organizing committee, there were more than 18,000 volunteers at the Games, providing services related to venue management, language and media to ensure the event was completed successfully. Among them were students from Zhengzhou University, who, after helping at the Olympics, worked to ensure the success of the Paralympics.
On Jan 7, 34 students from the university, led by their 25-year-old supervisor Li Xinping, embarked on the journey from Zhengzhou, Central China’s Henan Province, to Beijing. It was the first time some of them had visited China’s capital, and all of them felt excited.
“It may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to open my eyes as a volunteer for the Winter Olympics, so I signed up for it,” says 20-year-old Gao Ruikai, one of the students.
They arrived in Beijing on Jan 8, and were appointed to work as security in Chaoyang district, checking the trucks and people transporting goods and materials to the Winter Olympics.
They received strict training for eight days. Sometimes when they found what they learned too difficult to remember, Li would give them extra tutoring at night to help them memorize the knowledge so that they could pass both the theory and practical exams, and begin work, which started on Jan 21.
They were separated into two groups, responsible for checking people and trucks respectively, according to Chen Mengjiao, 21, who was appointed to check for forbidden objects. The volunteers worked in teams, each consisting of four people. In one team, two people cooperated to work for two hours, before swapping places with the other two. Each day, the whole group checked about 300 people, on average.

Megalopta genalis, known as sweat bees, are native to the tropical forest of Barro Colorado Island in Panama. They collect nectar and pollen (花蜜和花粉) just after sunset and about an hour before sunrise.
It is so dark at these times that “if you extend a hand out as far as you can, you wouldn’t be able to see your thumb,” says William Wcislo, a senior scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute at Barro Colorado. How are these green-and-gold bees able to find their way around in the dark
We memorize landmarks that show us how to get back to our house. The sweat bees do this, too. When the bees leave the nests that they build hanging from branches, they turn around and face the nest and fly around it to learn the landmarks.
How do they see the nest in the dark The researchers suspected that they look up at the forest canopy (树冠层), where blobby (满是滴状斑点的) patterns of the night sky looks lightly brighter against the super-dark tree leaves. Do the bees recognize these patterns to get home
The researchers built nests that had different patterns over their entrances. One of the samples could link the bees with the pattern of their nest. Then the bees could find the nest that matched the pattern they memorized when they left home even if the researchers moved its location.
It also shows that light pollution generated by cities could confuse bees and other nocturnal (夜行的) animals. Wcislo says the good news is that light pollution can be reduced if we change our activities. For example, people can program highway lights to turn off when there are no cars on the road, and we can use different wavelengths of light that do not disturb animals.
“If we want plants and fruits, we need pollinators (传粉昆虫) such as sweat bees,” Wcislo says. And by figuring out what they need to find their nests we can do better work to help protect them.
32. What do Wcislo’s words mean in paragraph 2
A. Humans can point out the right direction for bees in the dark.
B. It’s very dangerous to stretch a hand in the dark tropical forest.
C. Sweat bees can lead the way for people who are lost in the dark.
D. Sweat bees are better at finding the way in the dark than humans.
33. What do we know about Megalopta genalis from the text
A. They collect nectar and pollen during the day.
B. They have better eyesight than human beings.
C. They bear landmarks in mind before leaving home.
D. They build their nests above the forest canopy.
34. How do sweat bees find their nests in the dark
A. By flying higher than the forest canopy.
B. By leaving some marks along the way.
C. By memorizing the shapes of canopy gaps.
D. By recognizing different wavelengths of light.
35. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A. Sweat bees and other animals may cause light pollution.
B. We can learn to find the way from animals active at night.
C. All human activities can do harm to animals active at night.
D. Preservation of sweat bees will be of great significance to us.
