A brave Belgian-British teenager took to the skies on Aug 18 in order to become the youngest woman to fly around the world alone.
With her parents looking on, 19-year-old Zara Rutherford took off from an airport in western Belgium, in windy, cloudy conditions. Rutherford plans to fly her fast and light Shark sport aircraft over five continents and 52 countries, including China. She hopes to break the record set by US aviator Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 when she set the world record in 2017.
Her three-month voyage will take her over oceans, deserts and the vast Siberian wilderness. She will try to avoid main air hubs—apart from New York's busy John F. Kennedy airport—in her tiny 325-kilogram plane. Instead, she plans to touch down at smaller airports and airfields for overnight rests and refueling (燃料给).
"I am nervous. I think my next step is to check the weather again," she said before takeoff. "I am reaching Scotland tonight. I am not sure that will work. But I will try my best, while staying safe, of course."
The Shark is too small for long-distance flying over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. For the crossing over the Atlantic, Rutherford plans to fly up through Europe. She'll head down through the US and then cross the Pacific. From there, she will head across Asia back to Europe.
Mental tiredness and loneliness on such a long-distance flight can be a big challenge. "These are things I am keeping in mind. I will also be on the phone with my parents often, as well as friends and family," Rutherford said. "Sadly, I cannot watch movies. But I have music lined up."
8.What does the article tell us about Rutherford's voyage

A. a-b-c-a. B. a-c-b-a. C. c-b-a-c. D. c-a-b-c.
10.How will she deal with tiredness and loneliness on her journey
A. By listening to music. B. By watching movies.
C. By playing computer games. D. By sending emails.
11.What is the author's main purpose in writing the article
A. To describe Rutherford's love for flying.

When Branwell was fourteen or fifteen, he did a lot of oil paintings. He painted people in the village, and it was easy to recognise the faces in the pictures. Later, he did a fine painting of his three sisters. I was very proud of him. We all decided he would become a famous artist.
Charlotte went to school again when she was fifteen. It was a much better school—Miss Wooler's school at Roe Head. I don't think Charlotte liked school, but she wanted to be a governess(女家庭教师), so she worked hard. I taught Branwell at home, and Aunt Branwell taught Emily and Anne. The girls and Branwell were learning to play the piano, and Branwell played the music in church.
Emily and Anne had dogs, and they used to take them for walks on the moors. Anne's dog was called Flossy, and Emily had a big strong one called Keeper. Keeper went everywhere with her. I think Emily loved that dog more than any person. Emily was sometimes a difficult child. She was very shy, and did not often speak to anyone outside the family. When she was older, I sent her to school with Charlotte, but she hated it, so I brought her home and sent Anne instead.
Branwell was not shy. He could talk to anyone for hours. Everyone in Haworth liked him. I remember the day in 1835 when Branwell went to London. He was eighteen years old, and he was going to the Royal Academy in London to learn to be an artist. He walked down the hill in Haworth with a bag of his best paintings on his back, and everyone in the village came out to see him go. That was a great day for me. Something terrible happened in London, but I don't knowwhat it was. Branwell came back two weeks later, his face white, his clothes dirty. I don't know what happened in London. He refused to tell me. He just sat upstairs, alone in his room for hours.
Later, I paid for a room in Bradford for him to work in. He could paint pictures of famous people there, I thought. It was easy work for him. But he couldn't do it. He spent all my money, and came home again after a while.
This was a sad time for me. My eyes were very bad, and I had to pay a young curate to help me with my work for the church. My old servant, Tabby, broke her leg and was very ill. And then one day I got a letter from Miss Wooler's school. My curate read it to me.
"Dear Mr Bronte," the letter said, "I am afraid that your daughter Anne is very ill, and..."
I don't think I ever moved so fast in all my life. Six hours later, I was at Roe Head. The next day Anne and Charlotte were at home. Anne was still alive, thank God! A month later she was well again. Thank God.
All my children were safe at home.
I was happy to have them here. They were so clever, and kind, and they loved each other so much. But I was an old man with bad eyes, and Aunt Branwell and I had very little money. My children had to find work somewhere, in order to live.
But what sort of work could they do
12.What is the correct order of Branwell s experiences

d.He spent all the money in Bradford and came home.
A. c﹣b﹣a﹣d B. a﹣b﹣d﹣c C. a﹣c﹣b﹣d D. c﹣a﹣b﹣d
13.The underlined word "curate" in paragraph 6 probably means " ".
A. a person who teaches others.
B. a person who cares for the sick
C. a person who manages a church
D. a person who works in another person s home.
14.Which of the following is true according to the article
A. Charlotte worked hard because she liked school very much.

C. Branwell was an out﹣going boy and everyone in Haworth liked him.

(2023·江苏省苏州市·模拟题) For me, nothing is more satisfying (1) discovering hidden gems(珍宝) in (2) secondhand shop. (3) all, one person's trash is another person's treasure.
Two years ago, I came across a collection of dusty photos. I thought, if these were (4) (I), or my family's, I'd want someone to return them to me, so I made it my goal to do so for others.
I've since visited secondhand shops (5) (week), and have accumulated more than 50, 000 of these items. I organize them in big boxes all over my house in New York. Photographs, home movies, undeveloped films, photo albums-you name it, I've collected it.
I've also set up a social media account to help reunite(使重聚) items with their owners or other family members. The quickest we've been able to find an owner is within two minutes. Someone commented below a photo I posted, "I think that's my child's preschool teacher." The longest we've taken to find someone is four months, but I'm proud that we still made it. There are (6) (thousand) of photos that have yet to be reunited. (7) social media, this project would not be possible.
People are often quite emotional when we get in touch—most of these items are (8) (lose) after a house move or a family death. Sometimes people donate a camera to a charity shop and forget to take the memory card out.
We once (9) (manage) to reunite a family with pictures from 1943, which was special. I found a can containing two rolls of film at a shop. One of my followers found a family on a heritage site, and their old photographs looked similar to the ones I found. We contacted them, and they confirmed their ancestors were in the photographs. They were extremely grateful and said that a family member had recently moved out of New York, which is probably how the film ended up at a secondhand store.
I'd love to create a building to hold all these memories. I want every photo and video to be digitized(数字化) so they can be preserved online. I'm bringing together a team to return the photos to their owners. (10) , I am still working on it since we are short of money. Maybe one day, I can realize my dream.

I still remember when I was in Grade 8, my physics was very poor. I had a really hard time with it. Once in class, the teacher asked us to discuss questions with each other. Online rumors
Fast changing online information makes it difficult for us to tell whether it's true or not.
【答案】Online rumors
Fast changing online information makes it difficult for us to tell whether it's true or not. Some people post online rumors to draw others' attention. Sometimes they even tell lies to annoy others on purpose just for fun.
During the epidemic, an online rumor flew to every corner of streets—there won't be enough rice in a short time. That made people so worried that they rushed to supermarkets and bought a lot more rice than they need. ①People who posted this rumor enjoyed spreading fear and panic. ②Therefore when we see some online rumors we need to keep calm. More importantly, we should never post them without thinking.

Teenagers need eight to ten hours of sleep per night. However,in adolescence (青春期) changes to the body's sleep cycle make it difficult for teens to fall asleep early. Many cannot fall asleep until 10:30 p.m.or even later and most of them will feel sleepy if they have to get up too early.
Scientists recommend that both middle and high schools begin no earlier than 8:30 a.m.Later school start times support the natural needs of teenagers and increase their sleeping time.

A. She aims to fly over five continents.
B. She will land at big airports for refueling.
C. She was confident before takeoff.
D. It will last about four months.
9.What is the right order for the continents Rutherford plans to fly over a. Europe b. Asia c. North America
A. a-b-c-a. B. a-c-b-a. C. c-b-a-c. D. c-a-b-c.
10.How will she deal with tiredness and loneliness on her journey
A. By listening to music. B. By watching movies.
C. By playing computer games. D. By sending emails.
11.What is the author's main purpose in writing the article
A. To describe Rutherford's love for flying.
B. To encourage girls to get into flying planes.
C. To introduce the difficulties Rutherford came across.
D. To report on a girl's flight on her own across the world.

Because I was very shy, I could not do it like what he told me. My physics teacher encouraged me to face others and talk with someone else bravely. Then I studied with some classmates together. When I did not understand any questions, they could give me some advice and I could quickly find out the ways to deal with the problems. After that, I felt very relaxed and asked my classmates a lot of questions about physics. I did not feel stressed out at all. At last, I finished my homework by myself for the first time. How excited I was!
Because of studying in groups, I am not worried about physics learning any more. With my classmates' help, I get more confidence. It also gives me more chances to improve myself in many ways. So let's study more in groups.
