Complaining is often looked at as a negative, but if you perfect it great things can happen.
1 Articles and experts insist that too much complaining will lower your empathy (共情) and stop you achieving your dream and living the life you want. They suggest that you cutout negativity from your life, especially people who complain. But humans love to complain. I know this because I get paid to sit with people while they complain and process every week.
Complaining does serve as a real purpose in our lives. 2 Dr Robin Kowalski found those who complain with the hopes of achieving a certain result tend to be happier.
Complaining also influences how people see us, creates social bonds, encourages empathy and helps create real changes. It plays a very important role in our lives and is a skill that can be extremely effective. 3
So here are some ways to deal with the art of complaining in a skillful way.
1. Clarify and organize your complaints. It will get your complaints across to others more easily.
2. Work out who can give you a hand. 4 Pick those who can empathize with you or help with your goal.
3. Make connections with others. It would be possible for people to know what you needed. Conclude from specific things above, and our complaining is much more likely to feel useful and effective:
·Use facts and logic.
·Identify who has the ability to make it happen.
· 5
Whatever your complaining, it’ll make for your improvement when used correctly and effectively.
A.Don’t complain to the same people.
B.Get rid of your sharp complaints.
C.Socialize with others to make complaints accessible.
D.Actually, complaining has a bad reputation.
E.However, the influences of complaining are not necessarily beneficial to us all.
F.Our goal is not to remove complaining, but make it more useful and effective.
G.Once we discover how to effectively integrate it, great things can happen.
【答案】1.D 2.G 3.F 4.A 5.C
1.上文“Complaining is often looked at as a negative, but if you perfect it great things can happen.(抱怨通常被视为消极的,但如果你把它做到完美,伟大的事情就会发生)”以及下文“Articles and experts insist that too much complaining will lower your empathy (共情) and stop you achieving your dream and living the life you want.(文章和专家坚持认为,过多的抱怨会降低你的同情心,并阻止你实现梦想和过上你想要的生活)”说明抱怨有积极的一面,但是人们认为抱怨是会产生负面影响的。
2.上文“Complaining does serve as a real purpose in our lives.(抱怨确实是我们生活中的一个真正目的)”说明抱怨是我们生活中的一个真正目的。
3.上文“It plays a very important role in our lives and is a skill that can be extremely effective. (它在我们的生活中扮演着非常重要的角色,是一种非常有效的技能)”说明抱怨在人们的生活中起着重要的作用,是一种非常有效的技能。空处承上启下,说明抱怨在人们的生活中起着重要的作用,所以对待抱怨我们的目的不是消除,而且使其更加有用和有效,引出下文如何巧妙处理抱怨艺术的方法。所以F项“我们的目标不是消除抱怨,而是使其更加有用和有效。”符合语境。故选F。
4.上文“Pick those who can empathize with you or help with your goal.(选择那些能与你产生共鸣或帮助你实现目标的人)”说明我们需要选择和那些能与你产生共鸣或帮助你实现目标的人去抱怨。空处引出下文,A项中的the same people和下文中的“those who can empathize with you or help with your goal”相呼应,说明不要总和同一个人抱怨,选择那些能与你产生共鸣或帮助你实现目标的人。故选A。
5.上文“Use facts and logic.(运用事实和逻辑)”以及“Identify who has the ability to make it happen.(确定谁有能力做到这一点)”说明对上文给出的建议做出了总结。 上文“Make connections with others. It would be possible for people to know what you needed.(与他人建立联系。
需要注意的是for one thing...for another...,some..other(s)...,first...second...

Many people think that being healthy is a difficult task that involves lots of dieting and time at the gym. 1 By supporting your body and mind, making some simple changes to your routine, and setting small goals for yourself, you can be on the path toward living a healthier, happier life.
Drink more water. Adults should drink 2-3 liters of water per day, while children should drink 1—2 liters. 2 Water keeps your body at the correct temperature and removes poison and maintains homeostasis(体内平衡). Water also clears your skin, helps to control your appetite, and keeps you energized.
3 Every time you get moving you put yourself at risk for injury, so make sure you’re doing it right! You should always be drinking water during your workouts. Take breaks! It isn't being lazy; it's being healthy. After 30 minutes or so of exercise, grab your water bottle and lighten up. Your body needs a second to catch up. You'll be able to go further in the long run.
Think positively. A simple positive change on a situation can turn an challenge into an opportunity. Not only will you have more interest for life, but your immune(免疫的) system can also fight off colds and heart disease better! 4 Think of two things you’re grateful for. Eventually, your mind will notice the pattern and stop the negativity before you have to do it.
Get a good night's rest. Getting too little sleep or poor-quality sleep not only makes you easier to get sick, but also increases the time you need to recover from illness. When you sleep well, you can wake up ready to go and be more active all day. 5
A.Exercise wisely.
B.But that’s actually not true!
C.To start this difficult step, focus on gratitude.
D.That is in addition to other drinks like tea or coffee.
E.So sleeping properly is very important for your health!
F.Soon, you'll start to see your healthy life taking shape!
G.So instead of walking quickly on Wednesday, go to hit the pool.

Social media is a double-edged sword. It can be good or bad, depending on how people use it. Here are several ways to help one use it responsibly.
6
Social media can be a big waste of time if you spend most of your day looking through what other people post, commenting on and liking things, or looking at every message on your device. Instead, you should learn to practice some self-control and limit your usage every day. 7 Afterward, set an amount of time for your social media use, such as 10 minutes every time.
Think twice before posting something.
Materials posted on social media are often more lasting than you think. And even if your post is deleted, words and images you upload on these platforms can remain online and be difficult to remove. 8 Therefore, before posting something online, consider if it would negatively affect others. If it is, then don’t post it. 9 This can destroy your reputation or others’.
Learn to check the truth of things that you see.
Some of the things you see on social media might not necessarily be true, especially when it comes to news and information. You may immediately believe what you see and read. The danger of this behavior is that you might be spreading misinformation if you share what you have seen before checking the truth of the post. 10 Check from other sources whether what you have seen and read is true. Ask opinions from other people.
A.Follow those that matter to you.
B.Don’t let social media eat all your time.
C.And you never know where they might end up.
D.What’s more, avoid posting unprofessional photos or bad comments.
E.Social media can have a powerful impact on a person’s emotional state.
F.Just make it a practice to research the accuracy of any information or image.
G.For example, try setting specific times per day when you check your social media accounts.

And even if your post is deleted, words and images you upload on these platforms can remain online and be difficult to remove.(社交媒体上发布的材料往往比你想象的更持久。 符合题意,they代指上文提到的Materials posted on social media,故选C。

How to stay safe when an earthquake happens
What should you do when an earthquake comes about unexpectedly Here are some tips for you.
●When walking outside
11 Signs, broken windows, tools, building materials and so on are all probably come down to you from overhead. Protect your head with your bag or coat and keep at a distance from tall buildings. Stone walls and pillars can also fall down and are probably dangerous.
●When driving a car
Firmly hold the steering wheel(方向盘), gradually reduce speed, park your car on the side of the road, and stop the engine. 12 If you need to evacuate(撤出), leave your keys, keep the door unlocked, and walk away with your car documents and valuables.
●When underground or in a subway
The shaking you feel when you are underground is about half of what you would experience over ground. 13 Calmly evacuate, following instructions from shop clerks and subway staff.
●When in a high-rise building
14 Immediately leave the elevator. If you get trapped in the elevator, use the fixed telephone to get in touch with someone outside and wait for rescue. When you evacuate from buildings, never use elevators, listen to announcements and use the stairs to leave the building.
●When near the ocean
Head for higher ground and carefully listen to tsunami(海啸) information. Do not go near the ocean until tsunami warnings have been cleared. 15
A.Don't be buried in ruins.
B.Be careful about falling objects.
C.Don't even think about going to watch tsunamis!
D.Pay attention to the different signs of an earthquake.
E.Additionally, underground areas are safer than high-rise buildings.

I just counted how many foreign languages I've studied so far in my life and it's been twelve!
I always follow my interests and I like to read blogs(博客)in other languages. 16 . Bloggers tend to write the same way they speak, so I don't have to worry much about adopting strange terms that are only used in writing.
Movies are also a really good tool, especially if you can find subtitles(字幕)in the language you're learning. 17 ,they will still keep your brain listening and reading in the same language. Music is another way to start listening in your new language. Games are of course also an excellent way of studying a new language. A lot of language learning computer programs include games. I'm super competitive and if I play any of them. I can be hooked for hours. 18
However, the hardest bit for me is when I'm comfortable enough with a language to understand most things and make myself understood. I'm actually stuck at this stage in Norwegian, 19 Ideally I should sign up to take a big language exam. Each time I start getting self-satisfied, it's time to take a new course or take up some sort of challenge that will require me to level up my skills.
20 The best language class I've ever taken was my beginner's Russian course at university where my professor never used any English. It got to the point where I would kind of just forget about English while in Russian class, which helped me to really immerse myself in the Russian language and do a whole lot with the limited Russian I had.
A.That's really uncomfortable.
B.Whatever languages they're translated into.
C.I also try to think in the language I'm learning.
D.It's time well spent if I'm learning the language.
E.Computer games always make me feel worn out.
F.Though they don't always exactly match what's being said,
G.I found them the perfect learning tool for their oral language.
【答案】16.G 17.F 18.D 19.A 20.C
16.空格上句“I always follow my interests and I like to read blogs(博客)in other languages.”说明我总是依照我的兴趣,喜欢读其他语言的博客,G选项中“found them the perfect learning tool ”与上文“ like to read ”是顺承关系,说明读用其它语言书写的博客后,我发现了这个完美的学习语言的工具,结合下文“Bloggers tend to write the same way they speak, so I don't have to worry much about adopting strange terms that are only used in writing.”
17.上句“Movies are also a really good tool, especially if you can find subtitles(字幕)in the language you're learning.” 因此推断此处讲述电影字幕是学习外语的好工具,空格后半句“they will still keep your brain listening and reading in the same language.” 与F项“they don't always exactly match what's being said(尽管他们(指代字幕)并不总是完全符合(电影)所说的)。”
18.上文的“Games are of course also an excellent way of studying a new language.” 空前一句“ I'm super competitive and if I play any of them. I can be hooked for hours.(我有超级的好胜心,如果我玩其中的任何一个游戏,我能被吸引好几个小时”说明我喜欢玩游戏,花费很长时间在游戏上,因此推断如果我在学习这门游戏使用的语言,花费这些时间就是很值得的了。故选D项。
19.上文“However, the hardest bit for me is when I'm comfortable enough with a language to understand most things and make myself understood. I'm actually stuck at this stage in Norwegian,”说明对我来说,最难的部分是我能自如地使用一种语言来理解大多数事情,并让别人理解我。 A项的That指的就是上文的这种状况,A项中的“uncomfortable”与上文的“stuck at this stage”一致,说明那种状况真的很不舒服。A项切题。故选A项。
20.下文“The best language class I've ever taken was my beginner's Russian course at university where my professor never used any English. It got to the point where I would kind of just forget about English while in Russian class, which helped me to really immerse myself in the Russian language and do a whole lot with the limited Russian I had.” C项中的“try to think in the language(试着用这种语言来思考)”总结下文。故选C项。

How to be energetic all the time
Many people often lack energy and feel tired. If you are one of them, take the following suggestions to become an energetic person and make use of your full potential.
Manage your stress. If you are upset by emotions that result from stress, you will likely find that you have run out of energy. 26 To control your stress, consider talking things out with a close friend or perhaps consulting a psychiatrist.
Take a nap when it is possible. Although you might be busy every day, there is always some time to get a few minutes of shut-eye. 27 Don’t sleep too long, or you might experience difficulty in falling asleep normally that night, which will throw off your whole sleep schedule.
28 Foods that have too much sugar can lead to glucose fluctuations (血糖波动) which then cause energy levels to decrease. Many people suffer from low energy due to a lack of protein. For fast and effective energy change, you can eat a few handfuls of nuts.
Schedule your time in a practical, realistic manner. Being too busy can decrease your productivity and do harm to your mental health. So try to get one day of relaxation a week. 29
Exercise out. 30 Exercising out ensures sound sleep at night, and it helps oxygen to circulate, providing the cells with higher amounts of energy to burn. It also leaves you feeling refreshed and full of energy.
A.Eat less.
B.Sing alone or get up and dance.
C.Consider what you eat and drink.
D.Naps should be a maximum of 30 minutes.
E.In other words, emotions caused by stress eat up your energy.

11.由“ Instead, tell him how wonderful it is to fly”可知,相反,要告诉孩子坐飞机是多么美妙。

13.由“Reading may also make your children fall asleep”可知,读书也可能使你的孩子熟睡。

C

21 . There are many ways to do this—talking about the weather, asking for help or saying words of praise.
Introduce yourself at the end of the conversation. It can be as simple as saying “Oh, by the way, my name is ...” 22 Remember his or her name!
Join a sports team. As long as you enjoy the sport, you don’t have to be really good at playing a sport, just in order to make friends with others. 23 If you play the guitar or sing, try joining a band.
Be a good listener. 24 Ask questions about their interests, and just take time to learn more about them.
Encourage your friend. A very good friend encourages their friend. 25 Never make fun of or laugh at your friend in front of others. If someone is making fun of them, a good friend will come to save their friend.
A.Start a conversation.
B.Find out common interests.
C.But joining a sports team isn’t the only way.

F.This allows your body to get enough rest and gain energy for next week.
