With its snow-covered mountains and a variety of wildlife, Yellowstone National Park is one of the scenic treasures of the United States. Located primarily in Wyoming, the park receives millions of visitors every year. If you plan to travel within the park, keep in mind advice from the National Park Service.
Seasonal Travel
Travel varies vastly from season to season. Roads are generally open in the summer except for cases of rock or mud slides, wild fires, accidents or road construction. Early snows in the fall can cause some roads to be closed temporarily. In the winter almost all roads are closed to motor vehicles, but snowmobiles(摩托雪橇) and other vehicles with snow chains are allowed. Roads begin to open in the spring by the latter part of April but will be closed if snowfall continues.
Driving Time
Grand Loop is the main road through Yellowstone National Park; it passes by most of the major attractions. These include Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The maximum speed limit on the Grand Loop is 45 miles per hour, but the speed limit drops during some of the winding and twisting sections of this narrow road. Allow yourself at least two days to fully travel the loop due to the size of the park and being sometimes stuck in heavy traffic.
Safety Awareness
Buffaloes(水牛) often block the roads in the park as they move through the fields. If a herd is travelling across the road you are on, you can either wait for them to pass or find an alternative route. If you get out of your vehicle, the National Park Service suggests that you stay at least 25 yards from any buffalo (and 100 yards or more away from bears and wolves). Buffaloes are particularly unpredictable and charge towards people at a speed of up to 30 mph.
You can ride your bicycle on any public roads and routes designed for bikes, but bicycles are not allowed on the park roads which are narrow. Altitudes range from 5,300 to 8,860 feet. The National Park Service recommends cyclists wear helmets and noticeable clothing.
21.What do we know about travelling in Yellowstone National Park
A. Roads will stay open in case of emergency.
B. Traffic jams happen from time to time.
C. The driving speed on the road can be 50 mph.
D. Motor vehicles are allowed in the winter on all the roads.
22.What does the National Park Service suggest people do about safety
A. Stay inside the car throughout the travel.
B. Get out of their vehicles when coming across the buffaloes.
C. Wear the easy-to-see clothes while bicycling.
D. Avoid bicycling on the public roads.
23.From which is the text probably taken
A. A guidebook.
B. A commercial advertisement.
C. A research paper.
D. A geography textbook.
B
Everybody sleeps, but what people stay up late to catch — or wake up early in order not to miss —varies by culture. From data collected, it seems the things that cause us to lose the most sleep, on average, are sporting events, time changes, and holidays.
Around the world, people change sleep patterns thanks to the start or end of daylight saving time(夏令时). For example, Russians began to wake up about a half hour later each day after President Vladimir Putin shifted the country permanently to "winter time" starting on October 26.
Russians' other late nights and early mornings generally correspond to public holidays. On New Year's Eve, Russians have the world's latest bedtime, hitting the hay at around 3:30 a.m. Russians also get up an hour later on International Women's Day, the day for treating and celebrating female relatives.
The World Cup is also chiefly responsible for sleep deprivation(缺乏). The worst night for sleep in the UK was the night of the England-Italy match on June 14. The Brits stayed up a half hour later to watch it, and then they woke up earlier than usual the next morning thanks to summer nights, the phenomenon in which the sun barely sets in northern countries in the summertime. That was nothing, though, compared to Germans, Italians, and the French, who stayed up around an hour and a half later on various days throughout the summer to watch the Cup.
It should be made clear that not everyone has a device to record their sleep patterns; in some of these nations, it's likely that only the richest people do. And people who are elected to track their sleep may try to get more sleep than the average person. Even if that's the case, though, the above findings are still striking. If the most health-conscious among us have such deep swings in shut-eye levels throughout the year, how much sleep are the rest of us losing
24.According to the author, what are people's different sleeping habits connected with
A. Their enthusiasm for sports.
B. Their schedule during daytime.

25.What can we learn about the Russians concerning sleep
A. They have the shortest sleep in the world.
B. They have earlier mornings in the winter time.

26.Which of the following is the main reason for Europeans' less sleep
A. A sports event.
B. The time changes.
C. The night phenomenon.
D. The daylight saving time.
27.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. It is important to record sleep every day.
B. Average people probably have deep sleep.
C. Average people are losing much sleep nowadays.
D. Almost everyone can record their sleep patterns.

It is reported that the people in some countries waste as much as 222 million tons of food annually. Now the residents of a small Spanish town of Galdakao have created a simple solution to helping reverse the trend — a community fridge!
Surrounded by a wooden fence, the fridge is situated in the center of the small town. Every morning, individuals, restaurants, and supermarkets stock it with spare food or produce and drinks that are nearing their expiry date (有效期). Any of the town's residents or those living nearby can look through the offerings(捐献物) and get whatever they wish for.
To make sure that the food is safe, raw fish, meat, eggs and packaged or canned goods past their expiry dates are refused. Also, though homemade leftovers are welcomed, donors are required to list all the ingredients, and the date when it was prepared.
Because volunteers check the fridge daily to make sure that the food is not out of date, the residents have not had much to worry about. Since the fridge was put there about two months ago, the donated food gets consumed the day it arrives.
Alvaro and other members of Galdakao's volunteer association say they were inspired by similar actions all across Germany. Since the fridge was put in about two months ago, they have saved between 200 to 300 kg of perfectly good food that would have been thrown away. Besides, Galdakao's success is inspiring other Spanish communities to start similar programs.
Unfortunately, the fridge will not appear in the USA anytime soon. Earlier this year, a group of students at the University of California, Davis, set up a similar public fridge in their front yard to share food. It was a huge success until the officials saw it as "illegal" and ordered it to be removed. But simple actions, like buying just enough and donating unused safe food to food banks, can prevent unnecessary waste too.

B. Several food banks have been founded in the town.
C. Tons of good food has avoided being thrown away.
D. All the food beyond the expiry date has been consumed.
31.What can we learn about the public fridge from the passage
A. It was successful in the USA but was later canceled by government officials.
B. It was so popular that it spread to other countries.
C. For fear of food safety, few people were interested in it.
D. It was sponsored by Galdakao's volunteer association.

AUSTRALIAN adults want to see "life skills" introduced into school curriculums(课程), including money management, job preparation and domestic tasks. New research from Monash University showed Australian adults also widely supported the inclusion of technology, coding and artificial intelligence subjects to school curriculums to prepare them for future jobs.
Co-author Professor Neil Selwyn said the survey results of more than 2,000 Australians had taken himself and Dr Deana Leahy by surprise. "The life skills — I wasn't expecting that at all," he said. Those quizzed were asked to rate the value of a list of subjects already in the curriculums, but were also given an open space to write what they thought should be included. Prof. Selwyn said people called for schools to teach financial skills, budgeting, cooking and doing taxes. "You could argue that these are things people should be learning themselves, or learning from their families," Prof. Selwyn said. "But we've got to think forward in terms of the skills people will need for jobs and their ways of living."
One respondent(调查对象) said schools should introduce a "contemporary life skills" subject: "A compulsory 1-hour class a week on skills needed that parents seem continually unable to teach their kids". Suggestions for the class included resume writing, filing tax returns and health claims. Another respondent called for students to be taught "general life skills as unfortunately not enough kids will have parents to actually be bothered to educate them or simply parents don't know themselves".
Of the subjects, maths was the highest ranked (75.5 percent), followed closely by English (74.8 percent). And while science was the third highest ranked subject (46.2 percent), it was more strongly supported by those who earned higher wages and were university educated compared to lower income earners.
Aspects of school life considered least important were students having fun, learning about things that interested them and being given the opportunity to be creative.
32.Why did the adults suggest adding "life skills" to school curriculums
A. To vary school curriculums.
B. To enrich students' school life.
C. To save parents the trouble of educating kids.
D. To make preparations for students for future work.
33.What did Prof. Selwyn think of the adults' suggestions
A. Reasonable. B. Ridiculous.
C. Interesting. D. Impractical.
34.What does Paragraph 3 focus on
A. Differences of school subjects.
B. Reasons for the school survey.
C. Opinions from the people surveyed.
D. Investigations of the respondents.
35.What does the text mainly talk about
A. Australians supported universities in introducing life skills into school projects.
B. Children should prepare themselves for the future.
C. Schools should provide more practical classes.
D. Schooling is the most important aspect of human society.

Faith is like an inner voice that keeps reminding us about the positive outlook on life. And it helps us to keep going in spite of the situation in our life.
It was a hot day, and the sand was glittering(闪烁) like gold in a desert. Andrew, touring the place, lost his way in the desert. He could not find his way back, and the water in his bottle had run out. He needed to find water urgently. Otherwise, he would die due to dehydration(脱水). As he struggled to walk in the desert, he saw a small hut in the distance.
At first, he thought it was just an illusion. But he continued walking towards it, and as he got closer, he realized it was a real hut. He opened the door and found nobody there. It seemed that no one had been there for a very long time. He was surprised to see a hand pump, and it had all connections undamaged and a pipe going into the ground. Then he started pumping, but there was no sign of water. He continued his effort but gave up due to exhaustion.
He started searching the hut for any other source of water. Then he found a bottle of water hidden in the corner. He was happy, and when he was about to drink the water, he found a piece of paper attached to the bottle. The paper said, "Please use this water to start the pump. It works. After you have done that, do not forget to fill up the bottle again."

Dear Terry,
I'm writing to inform you about the erhu course. It will start this Saturday and will last until the end of June at the school music hall. It will be held once a week, and each lesson will last for two hours.
The erhu teacher will be Mr. Li, who has performed both in our city and abroad. He can really make the erhu sing. In class, you'll be shown the correct way to play and taught how to move the bow smoothly. Teacher Li will also introduce the history of the erhu and share some famous erhu music.
I'm sure you will find this course very rewarding.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version
Paragraph 1:
After reading the message on the paper, the man was confused. "Will the pump work if I use this water Is the pump in good condition If not, then my last source of water will be wasted," he thought. Having weighed the alternatives in his mind, he poured the water from the bottle into the pump and started pumping. Soon, he heard a bubbling sound, and water started pouring out.
Paragraph 2:
There was a moment of relief on his face. He drank the water and filled up his own bottle. Then he got washed and refilled the bottle from the hut. He looked around and saw a pencil and a map explaining the directions to the nearby village. He was happy that his faith in the water pump worked. Similarly, he believed that the map would direct him to the right direction. Then he wrote on the paper, "Have faith. It works." And he put the bottle back to the exact place where he had found it.
