Have you ever dreamed of traveling to space With many developments in space travel, you may soon be able to book a ticket.
Flying me to the moon
Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa will invite eight members of the public to join him for a trip around the moon with the help of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.
The mission, called dearMoon, will take three days to fly to the moon, orbit and then spend three days returning. In addition to its historic first as a private lunar mission, the rocket’s flight path means it will go beyond the distance traveled by the US Apollo missions, Musk told CNBC, an American news channel. The flight is scheduled for 2023.
Living in the space hotel
Instead of squeezing into a space cabin, how about enjoying your time in a hotel The world’s first space hotel is due to be under construction in 2025.
Developed by US company Orbital Assembly Corporation(OAC), the space hotel will be a large circular structure. It will rotate (旋转) to generate artificial gravity, similar to the level found on the surface of the moon, according to the Daily Mail. The hotel is expected to have restaurants, cinemas and rooms for up to 400 guests.

Known as the "First Lady of Physics" and "Queen of Nuclear Research", Chien-Shiung Wu was born in China in 1912 and went to the United States in 1936 to take part in the doctorate(博士学位) program in nuclear physics at the University of Michigan. After learning that women were disrespected at the University of Michigan, she instead chose to go to the University of California, Berkeley.
During her earlier life in China, she had been an outstanding student whose love of learning had been encouraged by her father. By the time she arrived in the United States, she had already stood out in her undergraduate academic work and later during postgraduate research. At Berkeley, she benefited from working with some of the top physicists in the country at that time. After one year at Berkeley, she received a scholarship (奖学金) to Caltech. She completed her doctorate in 1940 and moved to the east coast. Unable to find a research position at university, Wu became a physics teacher at Princeton University and at Smith College. In 1944, she joined the Manhattan Project where she began work on beta decay and uranium enrichment.
While at Columbia University, Wu began working with two other Chinese American scientists, Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen Ning Yang conducting research in the field of particle physics. Wu developed an experiment disproving (反驳) a hypothetical physical law called the conservation of parity. The experiment smoothed the way for her two colleagues to earn the Nobel Prize, an award for which she was overlooked, she believed, because she was a woman. In 1978, her work was finally recognized when she received the Wolf Prize, a $100,000 international award given to artists and scientists for achievements in the interest of mankind and friendly relations among people... regardless of their nationality, race, color, religion, sex or political views.
She continued advancing her work in nuclear physics for many years and later joined in protecting women’s rights. She died in 1997 from a stroke.

Planned missions to the moon need to hurry up to avoid hitting one of the busiest periods of extreme space weather, according to scientists conducting the most in-depth ever research on solar storm timing.
Scientists at the University of Reading studied 150 years of space weather data to look into patterns in the timing of the most extreme events, which can be extremely dangerous to astronauts and satellites. This new research on space weather timing allows predictions to be made about extreme space weather. Therefore, it could be used to plan the timing of activities, for example, major space missions.
The researchers found for the first time that extreme space weather events are more likely to occur early in even-numbered solar cycles or late in odd-numbered solar cycles. The findings may have influences on the NASA-led Artemis mission. It plans to return humans to the moon in 2024, but could be put off until the late 2020s.
Professor Mathew Owens, a space physicist at the University of Reading, said, "Until now, the most extreme space weather events were thought to be random in their timing. Though there is no set pattern of the events, this research suggests they are more predictable."
Previous research generally focused on how big extreme space weather events can be on the basis of observations of previous events. Predicting their timing is far more difficult because extreme events are rare, so there is relatively little historic data to identify patterns. In the new study, the scientists used a new method applying statistical modelling to storm timing for the first time. The findings suggest that any major space missions planned beyond the next five years will have to consider the higher probability of extreme space weather late in the present solar cycle between 2026 and 2030.
28.What can we learn about the new study from the first two paragraphs
A. It has lasted for 150 years.
B. It doesn’t refer to space weather data.
C. It shows space weather has no effect on astronauts.
D. It makes it possible to predict extreme space weather.
29.Why might the NASA-led Artemis mission be put off
A. To research solar cycles.
B. To meet the needs of astronauts.
C. To return humans to the moon in 2024.
D. To avoid effects of extreme space weather.
30.What does the underlined word "random" in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Irregular. B. Easy.
C. Limited. D. Changeless.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The study is useful for future space missions.
B. The planned space missions should be put off.
C. Extreme space weather will happen before 2026.
D. Previous observations make no difference to the study.
D
The future of space exploration may depend on an art form from the past: origami, the ancient art of paper folding.
Researchers from Washington State University (WSU), US, have used origami to possibly solve the problem of storing fuel and moving fuel to rocket engines, a key challenge in space travel, according to Newswise. They’ve developed a foldable plastic fuel "bladder (气囊)" resistant to super cold temperatures, which could be used to store and pump fuel in spacecraft of the future. Their findings have recently been published in the journal Cryogenics.
"Folks have been trying to make bags for rocket fuel for a long time," said Jake Leachman, one of the lead researchers. "We currently don’t take large, long-duration trips because we can’t store fuel long enough in space."
Meanwhile, NASA is also relying on paper folding to help observe distant planets. The is currently developing Starshade, a foldable, flower-shaped piece of hardware that will help block starlight and enaagencyble telescopes to view distant objects more clearly in space.
"A huge part of my job is looking at something on paper and asking, ‘Can we fly this ’" Manan Arya, a technologist in California, said. "Once I realized this is how you fold spacecraft structures, I became interested in origami. I realized I was good at it and enjoyed it. Now, I fold it constantly. "
Using origami for space purposes isn’t new, however. Solar arrays (太阳能阵列), experimental wings for space shuttle programs and an inflatable (可充气的) satellite were also inspired by origami in both past and present space projects.
"With most origami, the magic comes from the folding," Robert Salazar, who helped design Starshade and now works on the Transformers project, said in a statement. "There are so many patterns still to explore."
32.How could the "bladder" help on future missions
A. To be used to improve energy use.
B. To protect spacecraft from extreme weather.
C. To help rocket engines reduce energy waste.
D. To be used to store and supply fuel in spacecraft.
33.What can we know about NASA’s Starshade
A. It can be used to get telescopes closer to stars.
B. It can enlarge the view of telescopes in space.
C. It can absorb a star’s light before it enters telescopes.
D. It can help telescopes get clearer pictures of objects in space.
34.Where is this text probably taken
A. A travel journal. B. A study.
C. A science report. D. An advertisement.
35.Which can be the best title for the text
A. Folding into space
B. The art of paper folding
C. Space exploration
D. The origami projects

Gardening 380 Kilometers above Earth
Astronauts have to go through every aspect of training, including how to care for plants. These "astronaut gardeners" share their work and living space with plants.
Taking seeds and plants along on a trip isn’t a new idea. As space trips become longer, it will be necessary to grow food in space. 36. Because of this, it’s not practical to send everything needed for a long journey, only to be used once and thrown away.
Plants can serve many uses on a space journey. They can provide more fresh things. 37. Also, plants can help to make air quality better because they produce oxygen. They can improve the quality of the air inside the spacecraft — the only air the astronauts can breathe.
38. Due to the lack of gravity in space, the oxygen that the plants produce stays around the plants. This can actually kill them, so fans are needed to circulate air. Without gravity, roots don’t "know" to grow down, leaves don’t "know" to grow up, and water doesn’t easily travel up the roots to the leaves. 39. Besides, soil is too heavy to send to space, and special liquid gels(凝胶) are used to help plant growth.
Scientists are also working on the plants themselves. They are trying to make plants grow more rapidly and grow with less water and light in space, and they are looking for ways to make plants more resistant to disease. 40. Imagine that deserts may one day provide lots of fresh food for local people, which will save transportation costs. Similarly, plants that are resistant to disease could provide an important food supply. With the world’s population now at about 7.7 billion, our astronaut gardeners may help discover ways to feed those billions.
A. Every plant grown in space must have several uses.
B. However, there are challenges of growing plants in space.
C. Such methods may result in improvement on Earth.
D. The cost of taking anything into space is about $22,000 per kilogram.
E. Specialized containers are being developed to help the plants grow correctly.
F. Astronauts will welcome the addition of fruits and vegetables to their diet of dry foods.
G. Currently all oxygen is taken aboard in tanks and then caught again so it can be reused.

Peter, a 5-year-old boy, showed such great interest in seashells that he would rush to pick them up with his 3-year-old sister, Shirley. They screamed with joy as Peter collected his treasures into his pockets. For Peter, seashells lay shining on the peaceful beach, waiting for him, just like stars twinkling in the sky.
One day, Peter was wandering through a market with Shirley, with some seashells in his pocket. Suddenly Peter found his younger sister was lagging(落后)behind. He stopped and looked back, finding Shirley was standing in front of a toy shop and was staring at something with great interest.
Peter went back to her and asked, "What do you want " Shirley pointed at the doll, wearing a smile on her face. Peter held his younger sister’s tiny hand, walking into the shop. He stood on tiptoe(踮着脚)to reach for the doll, and like a responsible elder brother, gave the precious doll to Shirley. Holding the doll tightly, his sister was very very happy.
The shopkeeper was watching everything and was amused to see the behaviour of Peter. Then Peter came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, "How much does this doll cost, Sir "
The shopkeeper was a cool man, who had suffered from something in his life. So he asked Peter with love and affection, "Well, what can you pay " Peter reached into his pocket for money that was intended for these two little guys’ breakfast. Having counted the money, Peter put it carefully on the counter, asking again, "Sir, is it enough for my little sister’s doll "
The amusing scene just in front of the shopkeeper eventually brought a smile on his face. Shaking his head slightly, he replied, "My boy, I am afraid it seems not to be enough."

第一节范文
Hi, everyone. Welcome to our English Corner!
This corner was set up two years ago. We gather here every Friday evening. Besides the students from our school, many English lovers and some foreigners also join us. We not only talk about things we are interested in to practice our oral English, but also exchange our experience in English study. In addition, we can make many good friends and have a good time here.
It is proved that our corner is very helpful and is welcomed by students, teachers and parents. If you want to improve your English and make your life more colorful, join us!
第二节范文
One possible version
Paragraph 1:
With his eyes fixed on Peter’s pocket, he wondered what Peter would do. Watching Shirley’s smile fading away, Peter frowned. After a while, he seemed to make up his mind. He took out all the seashells from his pocket, giving them to the shopkeeper, who took them and started to count as if he had been counting the money. Peter asked him, "Is it enough now " The shopkeeper replied, "These are more than the cost." Saying so, he kept only two seashells and returned other seashells and the money. Peter put those seashells back into his pocket very happily.
Paragraph 2:
Seeing Peter leaving happily with his sister holding the doll tightly, an assistant in that shop got surprised. He asked the shopkeeper, "Sir! You only charged two seashells for the doll !" The shopkeeper said with a smile, "For us these are seashells, but for the boy they are treasures. His love for his sister is the most precious." Watching the lovely kids until they were out of sight, he continued, "When he grows up, he will remember he bought a doll for his sister with the seashells. He will cherish love and warmth in life — cherish every little shining seashell in his heart."
