Astronauts would face dangers both getting to and surviving(生存) on Mars. Let's learn about surviving a trip to Mars.
What would it take to keep people safe and healthy on a trip to Mars Scientists are already working on it though the trip may be many years later.
Over the last 60 years, many spacecraft(航天器) have flown by, orbited(沿轨道运行) and even landed on the Red Planet. However, humans could work faster and smarter than machines. That's why the United States, China and other countries want to send people to Mars. But surviving this trip would not be easy.
A trip to Mars would be the farthest journey in human history. Mars is about 225 million kilometers away, so it would take astronauts at least six months to reach there. However, it only takes a few days to get to the moon.
While space travel is never free of danger, it takes a lot more health risks to travel in space for a long time. For one thing, staying in space for long periods makes the human body weak. Also, it puts pressure behind the eyes and causes eye problems. But gravity(重力) machines could help.
Then there's space radiation(辐射) to worry about. It might raise the risk of health problems. especially for astronauts who will have long journeys. Scientists are working out the problems. They have found taking certain vitamins(维生素) can help.
Astronauts will have to pack light to lift off from Earth. But they won't be able to get things they need like astronauts on the space station do. Astronauts on the space station practice for this by growing lettuce and other food in space. Engineers are developing 3D printing techniques which could allow future Mars astronauts to build tools as needed.
28.Why do the countries want to send astronauts to Mars
A.Because spacecraft couldn't work on Mars.
B.Because humans could work faster and smarter than machines.
C.Because scientists have worked out how to survive on Mars.
29.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE
A.A trip to the moon would be the farthest journey in human history.
B.Taking certain vitamins can help reduce pressure behind the eyes in space.
C.Space radiation might raise the risk of health problems for astronauts.
30.In the last paragraph, the writer implies(暗示) that ____ .
A.3-D printing techniques could allow astronauts to build tools as needed
B.Mars astronauts can grow lettuce and other food now
C.Mars astronauts will be able to get things they need
31.The passage mainly talks about____.
A.surviving a trip to Mars
B.spacecraft landing on Mars
C.health problems of future Mars astronauts

Xu Xiake was known in China as a great explorer (探险家), geographer and travel writer. Born in 1587, he loved reading books about geography and nature and from an early age wished to see the natural wonders of the country. Xu started to travel at the age of 22 with the encouragement of his mother. As well as exploring famous mountains and rivers, he went to places that had never been visited before. His first journeys lasted only a few months so that he could often return home. But by 1639, about two years before his death, Xu had been traveling for years at a time, covering almost half of modern China. Unlike most travelers these days, Xu traveled the hard way-on foot. He showed great courage during his journeys. He often went without food for days and suffered(遭受)bad weather, illness, dangerous animals and even robbers.
Xu wrote about his discoveries in his travel diaries, which are the earliest records of landscapes (风景) in Southern China. Xu's own experiences enabled him to correct several mistakes in earlier books. One of his most important discoveries was that the Jinsha River was the true source of the Yangze River. At more than 600,000 words, Xu's diaries are regarded as one of the greatest works in both scientific and literary fields. Translated into modern Chinese, it is amazing to hear the voice of Xu Xiake speaking to us across the centuries about his adventures.

57.Why did his first journeys last only a few months
58.How did Xu Xiake travel

Dear Denny,
You must be excited about coming to China soon. I’d like to tell you something about Chinese customs.
When greeting, it is customary to shake hands. Handshakes are a common way to show respect. When eating, there are a few things to keep in mind. It is polite to wait for the host to start eating before you begin. This shows respect for the host’s invitation. You should not leave chopsticks sticking upright in a bowl of rice as it is considered unlucky. It is impolite to point with your chopsticks or to spear food with them. In addition, when giving or receiving gifts, it is traditional to use both hands to show respect. Refusing a gift at first is often a sign of modesty, but you should accept it after some polite insistence. It is not considered rude to ask personal questions, such as about one’s job or family.
I hope these tips will help you feel more comfortable during your stay in China.
