Going camping is the best fun in the world if we know how to do it. Every healthy boy and girl, if possible, should enjoy living outdoors for a week or two every year.
A group of four members makes a good number for a camping trip. They will probably agree better than two or three. They can do much of the camp work in pairs. No one needs to be left alone to look after the camp while the others go fishing or hunting or to some nearby towns for food and drinks.
It is always better to go camping with someone who has “camped out” before. If he cannot be found, then make your plans, decide what you will do and how you will do it, take a few cooking lessons from your mother or someone else.
First, choose a leader, not because he is more important than the rest but because if someone goes ahead and gives directions, the life in camp will run much more easily and everyone will have a better time.
If it is your first experience in camping, you had better go somewhere near home. The best place is one that can be reached by car. If you have to carry your supplies(必需品) on your back or in a canoe(独木舟), the amount(数量) you can take will be much less.
After you have had some experience near home, you can safely try the other way. Where you go is of little importance. Near every large city there are some lakes or rivers where you can find a good camping site. Campers always have more fun if they are near some water, but if such a place is not easily found where you live, go into the forest. Try to get away from towns or villages. The wilder the place is, the better.

People don’t always go to coffee shops just for a drink, but to spend time with friends or read a book. This “coffee shop culture” is very popular in the UK and it is a fantastic way to spend time with loved ones. It isn’t popular everywhere, though.
There are around 15,000 coffee shops in the UK. On the main street of my home city, Edinburgh, there are at least five quite large coffee shops. It will never be more than a five or ten minutes’ walk to the nearest café. Most coffee shops are places where you can sit for hours as you sip your coffee. People go with friends and family to chat and relax after going shopping or meet up just for a gossip. Alternatively, many people go alone. Coffee shops are great places to read in peace, or to sit and write. And with free Wi-Fi in many places, it is not difficult to spend a lot of time in a coffee shop.
In Colombia, however, the coffee shop culture does not really exist(存在), or, at least, is still very new. The coffee shops are far away. Nobody spends the afternoon enjoying a peaceful moment. People never seem to come in for a drink but for a quick meeting, even if they are with family or friends. The idea that a person would go to a coffee shop alone is strange. Every time I go alone with a book, other customers look at me as if I had horns(角).
It doesn’t much matter to me though. Next mouth I am heading home and I’ll have plenty of quiet little coffee shops to read, write, and gossip with friends.

When I was in the seventh grade, I helped take care of the sick people at a hospital in my town. Most of the time I spent there was with Mr. Green. He never had any visitors and nobody seemed to care about his condition. I spent may days there holding his hand and talking to him, helping with anything that needed to be done. He became a close friend of mine though he was in a coma(昏迷).
I left for a one-week holiday with my parents, and when I came back, Mr. Green was gone. I was afraid to ask any of the nurses where he was. Several years later, I was a student in high school. One day when I was at a bus station, I noticed a familiar(熟悉的) face. When I realized who it was, I couldn’t stop crying. I asked him if his name was Mr. Green and if he had been in a coma about five years ago. With an unsure look on his face, he replied “yes”. I explained how I knew him, and that I had spent many hours talking with him in the hospital. His eyes were also full of tears and he gave him story. He said he could hear me talking to him and could feel me holding his hand the whole time. He thought it was an angel(天使), not a person, who was here with him. Mr. Green believed that it was my voice and my touch that kept him alive. Although I haven’t seen him since then, he fills my heart with joy every day. I know that I made a difference in his life. More important, he has made a big difference in my life.

PowerPoint Presentations (PPT) are taking the place of writing on the blackboard with chalk. Someday, will robots take the place of human teachers
In Japan, a robot is going to enter classrooms to help teachers. Last week the Japanese company Honda Motor Co. showed the public its robot at a Tokyo museum. The robot’s name is Asimo. Students will see Asimo in science classes and learn the wonders of science.
Asimo is 130 centimetres tall with a round head. It can jog, walk up stairs and wave. It can also avoid things on its way and have simple talks with you. Asimo is an experienced worker for humans. It has worked as a guide in showrooms. But this will be the first time it works as a teaching assistant in classrooms and in formal teaching!
How will Asimo help in class A teacher explained the way Asimo works to students in last week’s show. Asimo has sensors (感应器) inside its body to keep its balance.
The smart Asimo tilted (倾斜) its body when it stood on a shaking platform (平台). Asimo kept its balance. But a wooden person beside Asimo fell (See the above picture).
When you walk, you pass your weight from the heel to the toe. The Japanese teacher explained this with Asimo at the museum. He moved the robot in slow move. Asimo made learning science more interesting for students!
Asimo will soon help teach thousands of primary students and junior high schools in two Japanese cities. Hopefully, robot teachers will arrive at our classrooms in China one day.

In the past, people used to travel to foreign countries because they thought they would be different in many ways — the buildings, the food, the national dresses and so on. At present, however, one large city is similar (相似的) to another. They all have their Hilton or Sheraton Hotels everywhere. They all have their McDonald’s, their KFCs and their Pizza Huts. Office buildings look the same everywhere, and most city centres are full of office buildings. And of course, people are driving the same brands (品牌) of Japanese or European cars.
Then why is the foreign travel more popular nowadays What do tourists hope to experience in a foreign country that they cannot experience at home The answer could be that people are very interested in the past. It is a nation’s history and cultures that attract the tourists most. Most people travel overseas to find out what foreign countries’ history and cultures used to be like, not what they are like today. Tourists visit different kinds of museums so that they can learn their history and cultures.
Every country also has its own beautiful places for tourists to visit. Their own special views would certainly attract tourists from other countries.
Finally, another attraction is its people. The culture of a country is not just its old buildings, its works of art or beautiful places, but also the people who live in it. This is why a country such as Thailand attracts millions of people. The tourists come mainly because of the friendliness of the people there. It is why the Pacific islands are also so popular. The friendly, smiling people make visitors feel welcome.
What is the foreign travel for In the past People traveled 36 to see buildings, food and dresses which were not the same as 37 of their own countries.
At present However, one large city is 38 another. People travel to foreign countries to learn their history and cultures. People learn about foreign countries by 39 their museums. The friendliness of the people makes visitors feel welcome.
The world is divided into two important parts. One half of the world is rich and the other half is poor. In the poor part, a lot of people never get enough to eat. In the rich part, many people eat too much. In one part, children are hungry and in the other, a lot of people are fatter and fatter and have to go on diets or do some exercise to lose weight.
The poor countries have some difficult problems. Sometimes the land is too poor to grow anything on. The land can get better, but people have to do a lot of things first. They should learn how to enrich their land and how to find water.
But rich countries have problems too. Sometimes the air is too dirty to breathe and the rivers are too dirty to swim in or to take water from. The roads and the streets are full of people and buses. People must do something about these problems. We should do something to make the air and the rivers clean. But it will take a long time.
Two parts in the world
The poor part The rich part
People in poor countries only have a 41 food to eat. People in rich countries eat too much.
Children are hungry. Many people have to 42 weight by going on diets or exercising.
The land is too poor for plants to 43 . *The air and the rivers are not 44 . *There is much traffic and many people on the roads and in the streets.
