One mid-November morning in 2022, an old bottle washed up on the shore (岸) of Indian River Lagoon, on the east coast of Florida. Two teachers found it while picking up waste. A brown piece of paper was in it.
They wanted to threw it away, but then, they met Katie Carrmax and her family. The teachers gave the bottle to Katie. Her 6-year-old daughter was interested in solving the mystery (谜) of the message in the bottle.
By the next week, after searching online and making several phone calls, the family sent the message back to its owner, Troy Heller. He threw it into the ocean 37 years ago.
Heller wrote the message on paper while he was on vacation, telling its future finders: “Call me, or write to me. ” Heller put down his name, age, phone number and his address in Louisville. Chinese traditional paper cutting is an art of cutting out pictures from paper with the help of a pair of scissors (剪刀) or a knife. In 2009, the Chinese paper cutting was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录) .
Paper cutting originated (起源) in China and many people think it began in the 4th century with the invention of paper. But long before that, when paper wasn't invented, Chinese people already used similar skills to cut on leaves and silk. It reached top during the Qing Dynasty. Therefore, it's really a long art form that has been practiced in China through many centuries.
