Jeans were first made in the 1870s as clothes for workers. Later, some famous actors wore jeans in films and then they became popular during the 1950s. Jeans became a sign of the culture movements (运动) in the 1960s and 1970s. 36
Jeans are the most popular kind of clothing, but cotton used to make jeans is bad for the environment. 37 Water Footprint Network once made a survey about how much water is used for growing cotton. The result was surprising. It showed that one kilo of cotton uses about 10 tons of water. And cotton farmers often use lots of pesticides (杀虫剂). 38
Even so, nobody is suggesting giving up jeans—they just need to become “greener”. 39
In the 1960s, when the “washed” look on jeans first became popular and wearers wanted more comfortable cloth, French designer Marithe developed a way to make the cloth get the “washed” look with stones. This way needed much water. 40

Good habits make me healthy
Good habits can make a great difference to our lives. As for me, good habits make me healthy.
I used to eat junk food after school. I didn’t do much exercise and often stayed up late at night. Because of those bad habits, I always felt tired and sleepy in class. To change the condition, my mom decided to push me to have good eating and exercising habits. She asked me to eat more fruit and vegetables instead of junk food. With her help, I took up sports like running and swimming. These habits have changed my life and made me much healthier.
So, let’s develop good habits as early as possible.
