Fraser Island is in Queensland, Australia, about 200 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is about 120 kilometers long and 240 kilometers wide. It is completely made of sand. In fact, it is the largest sand island in the world. There is no airport on the island, but there is a long beach along the east coast. Planes arrive and leave from here.
The sand makes unusual shapes. There are hills made of sand. Nothing grows on them. They move one or two meters a year from the northwest towards the southeast of the island, getting bigger and bigger. At other places on the island, such as Rainbow Gorge, the Cathedrals and Red Canyon, the sandy rocks have different colors. Sometimes the rocks are so brown that they turn the sea brown, like coffee.
Surprisingly, the sandy island has a lot of different plants and animals. There are dark forests, beautiful flowers and over a hundred lakes. There are many kinds of birds, like owls and curlews. There are many animals there, too, such as crocodiles, flying foxes and wild dogs called dingoes.
About 500,000 people visit the island every year to see the island’s beauty and nature. People enjoy camping and hiking there. Unluckily, the visitors create problems. They damage (毁坏) plants and frighten animals. Their sun cream makes the water dirty. So it is necessary for the government to manage (管理) the visitors. For example, people must not damage plants or frighten animals while camping or hiking in the forests, they must not use motor boats or go fishing in the lakes, and they need government papers to drive there.

I joined a club called “Passing Help” last month. As for why I joined this club, there is a touching story behind it.
One evening this May, I went to the countryside on business. My old car broke down suddenly on my way home. It was 25 miles away from my house. I wanted to get a ride, but there was no car passing by. It was also hard to take a taxi in such a lonely place. So I decided to take a bus home. I walked forward and soon found a bus stop nearby.
After a while, a bus came, but it did not go to my town. The bus driver was a young woman. She told me which bus I should take. I waited there for about thirty minutes. During that time, a truck passed by, but there was no space for me to take a ride. Just then a car came to me and a woman came out of the car. She was just the bus driver. “When I reached the bus station, I found that the bus to your town couldn’t come, so I returned here to pick you up. I just can’t leave you here,” she said, “Get in my car and I will take you back to your home.”
“It is a long way,” I said.
“Come on, sir,” she said. “Let’s go.”
On the way she told me a story, which happened a few years ago. Her car ran out of gas halfway home. As she was wondering what to do, an old man driving by offered to drive her up to a gas station and then back to her car. The old man told her that he was a member of Passing Help and asked her to join it too.
When we got to my home, it was already very late. I wanted to give her some money as a thank-you, but she didn’t accept it. “As a club member, I’m just trying to help those in need and do something nice for somebody else. Pass it along!” she said.

A.He lost his way. B.His car broke down. C.He had a car accident. D.His car ran out of gas.
24.How did the writer get back home at last
A.By taxi. B.By bus. C.By truck. D.By car.
25.At the end of the story, the young woman asked the writer to ______.
A.take her to her home B.give her some money
C.help others as she did D.pay a visit to the old man
26.The best title for the passage is ______.

Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you.
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t try to talk about something with your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t listen to you if you are shouting at them. Go somewhere else to cool off. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you think you can’t speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter to them.
Try to understand your parents. Your parents may think differently from you. Tell your parents what you think, what you care about and why. Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. Put yourself in their shoes and you may find a better way out. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to an agreement. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
It is also important to show your love to your parents. Try to do some small things at home, like making them a cup of tea, helping do some chores, and so on. It helps to keep your relationship closer. A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try.
27.The passage is mainly written for ________.
A.parents B.teachers C.adults D.children
28.Your parents will probably not listen to you if you ________.
A.speak to them angrily B.never do housework at home
C.write a letter to them D.don’t make them a cup of tea
29.The story of Michael (in Para.3) shows that it’s important to ________.
A.go somewhere else to cool off B.put yourself in your parents’ shoes
C.show your love to your parents D.think differently from your parents
30.Doing small things at home can make your parents feel that ________.

Develop better relationships with neighbors
Good neighbors are a lot like running water: we don’t know how much we depend on them until we don’t have them. They make our lives more pleasant and give us a sense of who we are. Here’s how to develop your relationships with these very important people in your life.
◇ 31
Often neighbors don’t even know each other’s names. But it’s okay to be the one to break the ice, even if you’ve lived next door for years. Most neighbors enjoy making small talks in the yard. So as you see them at work in their yards, smile, wave and say hello. Ask how their kids are (whether they’re babies or in college), or what they think of the prices at the supermarket.
◇ 32
Your new neighbors may be feeling lonely, especially if they’re far from their hometown, and might hope for a friendly face. If they have kids, tell them where the children in the neighborhood live. Introduce the best places to eat and shop. Invite them over for coffee or tea, give them your number, and point to your house as you say good-bye.
◇ 33
Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good repair and as soon as you’ve finished with them. Replace anything that belongs to your neighbor if you, your children or your pets break it. Make sure that your car is not blocking (堵塞) their doorway. Such actions of consideration will help you build up a good relationship with your neighbors.
◇ 34
If you value a friendly relationship with your neighbors, spend time with them. What better way to meet your neighbors than to invite them to a barbecue or pool party Better yet, you might even consider holding a get-together. Send the invitations in person to everyone in the neighborhood and talk with each for five minutes before moving on to the next house. This way, you will know what your neighbors are like so that you can plan for proper food and music.
◇ 35
In a good relationship, it’s really the little things that count. Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when there is a heavy rain. When your neighbor forgets to take in his rubbish cans, carry them back into his yard. If you truly care about them in such small ways, they will give you a surprise, too.
A.Be a good listener.
B.Start a conversation.
C.Care about the small things.
D.Be friendly to the new neighbors.
E.Spend time with your neighbors.
F.Don’t cause trouble to your neighbors.
