Once there was a dog kennel(养狗场)that housed many dogs looking for homes. There a little dog was called Koolaid because he liked to drink Kool-Aid. The kennel keeper loved Koolaid but he was sad that no one wanted to take him home.
There was a family who had a blind boy named Billy. His parents loved him. However, he had no friends of his own age to play with. If there were any kids his age, they would not play with him because he was blind.
One day Billy's family arrived at the kennel to see if maybe a little friendly dog would help Billy be happier since he did not have friends. They walked through the kennel and looked at a lot of dogs. Then Billy stopped in front of Koolaid's pen (狗屋) and just stood there, saying "Mom, I want this dog. Please He wants me to take him home. He told me so. "
Everyone was surprised. Billy's mom and dadlooked at Billy then Koolaid, who was just sitting there quietly, not making a sound. They wondered how Billy knew there was even a dog in the pen and how the dog told that he wanted to be taken home. “Mom, he just told me. He told me that no one likes him and that he likes me. Mom, he knows that I can't see. "Billy insisted, unwilling to move away.
Billy's mom looked worried and then told Billy that the dog Koolaid had one blue eye and one brown eye. She asked in disbelief, "Are you sure you want this dog " "Yes, Mom. He told me that he is blind in his blue eye. and he said he loves to play with me, "answered Billy.
Billy's mom looked at her husband, hesitant. _______________________________________

The young boy saw me, or rather, he saw the car and quickly ran up to me, eager to sell his bunches (束) of bananas and bags of peanuts. Though he appeared to be about twelve, he seemed to have already known the sadness of life. “Banana 300 naira. Peanuts 200 naira.” He said in a low voice. I bargained (与……讨价还价) him down to 200 total for the fruit and nuts. When he agreed, I handed him a 500 naira bill. He didn’t have change. So I told him not to worry. He said thanks and smiled a row of perfect teeth.
When, two weeks later, I saw the boy again, I was more aware of my position in a society where it’s that common to see a little boy who should be in school standing on the corner selling fruit in the burning sun. My parents had raised me to be aware of the advantage we had been afforded and the responsibility it brought to us.
I pulled over and rolled down my window. He had a bunch of bananas and a bag of peanuts ready. I waved them away. “What’s up ” I asked him. “I... I don’t have money to buy books for school.” I reached into my pocket and handed him two fresh 500 naira bills. “Will this help ” I asked. He looked around nervously before taking the money. One thousand naira was a lot of money to someone whose family probably made about 5,000 naira or less each year. “Thank you, sir.” be said. “Thank you very much!”
When driving home, I wondered if my little friend actually used the money for schoolbooks. What if he’s a swindler (骗子) And then I wondered why I did it. You just have to wait till then,” Mom said before cleaning up the kitchen and leaving the room for the hotel where she worked as a clerk in the front desk.
It had been quite some time before Mom made cookies two months ago. She was always busy working, with little time to accompany her kids. Jack knew that the right thing to do would be listen to his mom, but he felt very attracted by the cookies. So when Mom left the kitchen and walked out of the door, he removed the cover from the cookie box and thought, “Mom won’t know if I just take one.” Then he took a deep breath, picked up a cookie and snacked on it, enjoying every last bit.
“Maybe if I take just one more, Mom won’t find out,” he said to himself as he took another one. “Does it matter if I eat one more OK, just one more. Just one more,” he repeated to himself and took yet another cookie from the box. Then he simply could not stop eating, and kept taking cookies one after another from the box till only one cookie was left. As he realized what he had done, he gasped in panic. “What shall I tell my mom ” Jack stayed in his room, thinking about how to escape this situation.
Soon it was dark. Mom returned home to have dinner with him and his sister Mabel, who just came back from their neighbour’s home. Our Garden and the Salad
“Christine, come and help me in the garden. I want to plant all of the seeds today.” My father was calling to me. “I'm busy...” I said. I didn't understand why working in the dirt excited him so much.
By the end of April, his plants had come up in neat rows. Unfortunately, in early May, my father was seriously injured in an accident. He was in hospital for about two months and during that time he often asked me about his garden. Even after he came home, he had to stay in bed for a while.
My mother had several business trips so I said that I would take care of his garden. I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often so I didn't think much about the garden.
One Saturday morning in July my father said to me, “Christine, I think that the vegetables should be about ready to be picked. Let's have a salad today!” I took a bowl and went out to the garden. I looked at the leaves and was upset to see that many of the leaves had been half eaten. There were hundreds of bugs (虫子) all over them! I tried to get them off, but there were just too many. I looked at the carrots next, but they didn't look healthy.
I got in panic for a moment, but then thought of a good idea. I quietly went to the nearest store to buy some vegetables. I went back home and cut them up to make a salad for my father. When I gave it to him, he said, “Oh, Christine, what a beautiful salad! You must be taking very good care of my garden.” My father looked happy, but I felt a little bit guilty.

One possible version:
Billy's mom looked at her husband, hesitant. They paced back and forth, wondering whether to take a blind dog home. Clearly feeling his parents' hesitation, Billy held his Mum's hand and begged eagerly, "I need Koolaid, Mum, just as much as he needs me. ”Touched by his insistence, eventually they told the keeper they would take Koolaid home. Hearing that, Billy smiled in relief. While waiting, they noticed Billy quietly whispering to himself. “I'm telling Koolaid we have a big yard and we can play there. "Billy explained cheerfully.
Koolaid moved into his new home. On arriving home, Billy took Koolaid to see around, the new doghouse and the big yard they would play in. Their favourite game to play was catch. Billy would throw a ball high in the air and Koolaid would always catch it and bring it back to Billy and place it in his hand. Billy and Koolaid grew closer and closer. Wherever Billy went, Koolaid was not far behind him. They found each other lifelong friends.

【答案】Six months later, I went out for a drive. When I was about to pull over, the boy suddenly appeared by my window with a big smile ready on his face. “Oh, gosh! Long time.” From his excited tone, I can feel how much he was looking forward to seeing me again. After a brief conversation, I learned that he had gone to school. A silence fell as we looked at each other, and then I realized what he wanted. “Here,” I held out a 500 naira bill. “Take this.” He shook his head and stepped back as if hurt.
He shook his head again and brought his hand from behind his back. His face shone with sweat. He dropped a bunch of bananas and a bag of peanuts in the front seat before he said, “I’ve been waiting to give these to you.” This was the simplest way of showing his gratitude. The rest of the night Jack felt regretful for what he had done, tossing and turning in bed, and finally he decided to tell Mom the truth and say sorry to Mabel.
So Jack gathered the courage to go to Mom’s bedroom. “Sorry, Mom. I ate the cookies, not Mabel,” he hung his head in shame. Mom hugged him, saying in a gentle voice, “I had known all along, but I wanted you to have the courage to tell the truth.” Jack then realized that he shouldn’t give in to greed or blame his mistake on others. “I’m proud that you came to me with the truth,” appreciated Mom. 【答案】One possible version:
I went back to the kitchen when my mother came home. She saw the bag from the supermarket. I was embarrassed and told her the truth. She laughed but promised to make time to help me in the garden. We made a mixture of water with chopped up fresh hot peppers and then watered it on the vegetables. The water is not harmful but can drive away the bugs. The bug free vegetables grew quickly, and finally I was able to pick some.
I carefully made a salad and took it to my father. He looked at it with a smile. “Christine, the carrots are smaller in this salad, but they taste better.” I realized that he had known all along about my shopping trip. I smiled back at him. Now, I better understand how putting a lot of effort into caring for something can help you appreciate the results more, however small they may be.
